Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso predicts Spain will win 2026 World Cup
Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has backed Spain to lift the 2026 FIFA World Cup trophy, citing their strong form and numerous reasons to be optimistic. Speaking to the club's official website, Alonso said watching Spain's matches brings back memories of their 2010 victory and highlighted the team's energy and control over games.
Spain's road to the semi-finals includes a convincing win over Austria in the round of 32, a knockout of fierce rivals Portugal in the round of 16, and a quarter-final triumph against Belgium secured by a late goal from Arsenal's Mikel Merino. To reach the final for the first time since 2010, La Roja must overcome France in the upcoming semi-final. France has won all six of its World Cup matches, scoring 16 goals while conceding only two.
Alonso, a former Spain international, said he can definitely see his compatriots lifting the trophy. He also noted that several Chelsea players — England's Reece James and Argentina's Enzo Fernandez — are still competing at the tournament.
Will you back Spain's chances in the semi-final, or do you think France's defensive record will prove too tough to break?
