Sci-fi thriller 'Mercy' starring Chris Pratt opened at number one in North America with $11 million in ticket sales, ending Avatar: Fire and Ash's five-week reign at the top. Pratt plays a man on trial for murdering his wife in the Amazon MGM Studios film, with his fate decided by an artificial intelligence judge. The film's opening weekend was impacted by a severe winter storm that closed theaters across two-thirds of the United States. Industry expert David A. Gross described the $11 million debut as 'very good' considering the extreme weather forced many people to stay home. Avatar: Fire and Ash dropped to second place with another $7 million, bringing its domestic total to $378.5 million plus $1 billion overseas. Disney's Zootopia 2 held third place at $5.7 million, crossing the $400 million mark in the US and Canada. The Housemaid took fourth place with $4.2 million, followed by 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple at $3.6 million. Rounding out the top 10 were Marty Supreme ($3.5m), Return to Silent Hill ($3.3m), Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring re-release ($2m), Hamnet ($2m), and Primate ($1.6m).
