Coach Eric Chelle has vowed to put Guinea‑Bissau in the same difficult position the Super Eagles found themselves in after their 3‑0 loss on Tuesday in Bissau, the opening match of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The defeat leaves Nigeria second in Group L with three points, while Guinea‑Bissau leads with six points and a superior goal difference.

Chelle stressed that the team’s qualification hopes remain alive but hinge on winning both scheduled November fixtures against Tanzania. He told reporters that securing those victories is essential to keep their chances alive, after which Guinea‑Bissau will travel to Uyo for the return match, followed by a game against Madagascar and the final qualifier versus Guinea‑Bissau again.

With the Super Eagles currently trailing the group leader, a double win over Tanzania would lift them to nine points and keep the race open. Failure to win either match would likely end Nigeria’s bid for the AFCON 2027 tournament, a outcome that would hurt national pride and deprive local players of international exposure.

Will Chelle’s promise translate into the needed victories over Tanzania, or will the Super Eagles’ 2027 AFCON dream slip away?
