COAS reviews army training, acquires new equipment to boost security
Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja announced a review of the Nigerian Army’s training curriculum, now emphasising marksmanship, counter‑insurgency and counter‑terrorism operations. He said the basic training period has been extended to about eleven months to improve readiness. The army has also acquired armoured personnel carriers, mine‑resistant vehicles and unmanned aerial vehicles, and personnel are being sent for specialised training both locally and abroad. These steps, he said, have already improved response times and operational success across theatres of operation. The COAS reaffirmed the army’s commitment to safeguarding the nation and responding to emerging security challenges. The announcement was made during a press briefing reported by Premium Times and distributed by the News Agency of Nigeria.
