Conte in talks for Man United job, demands transfer control

Former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is in discussions to replace Michael Carrick as Manchester United manager, per Italian outlet La Repubblica. Conte has laid out clear conditions: full authority over transfer decisions in January and next summer to rebuild a squad that has won just twice in 11 matches across all competitions.

United's 4-1 Champions League thrashing by Como on Wednesday intensified pressure on Carrick, who is expected to oversee Sunday's Premier League home clash against Bournemouth. Another heavy defeat could end his interim spell. Conte, who won the Premier League with Chelsea in 2017 and Serie A with Inter Milan, wants the autonomy he lacked at Tottenham where transfer disagreements led to his exit.

For Nigerian fans who follow the EPL religiously, this signals a potential reset at Old Trafford. Conte's track record suggests immediate tactical improvement, but his demand for transfer control clashes with United's current recruitment structure. January targets would likely include defensive reinforcements and a creative midfielder — areas exposed in the Como defeat.

Shearer and Lineker have already warned against the job, calling United a "graveyard" for managers. Rooney suggests Carrick give Bruno Fernandes the "Ferguson-Ronaldo treatment" to restore discipline.

If Conte arrives with January backing, will United's season turn around, or is the structural rot too deep for even a serial winner to fix?
