Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) warns of heightened Cerebrospinal Meningitis (CSM) risk in northern states due to dry, dusty conditions during the hot season. High-risk states include Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, Katsina, Kano, Jigawa, Adamawa, Gombe, Bauchi, Yobe, and Borno. CSM spreads through respiratory droplets in crowded, poorly ventilated spaces and can become life-threatening within hours if untreated. Early symptoms include sudden high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness, nausea, and sensitivity to light. NiMet urges vaccination, good hygiene, avoiding crowded spaces, and prompt medical attention for symptoms. Prevention includes handwashing, not sharing utensils, and ensuring proper ventilation.
