Dangote extends free fuel delivery to four more states, targeting lower pump prices
Dangote Petroleum Refinery has extended its free delivery service for petroleum products to Kano, Imo, Anambra and Nasarawa States, building on initial coverage of Lagos, Ogun, Rivers, Kaduna, Abuja and Delta States. By absorbing transportation costs from the refinery to marketers' locations, the initiative removes a major expense in the downstream distribution chain that typically gets built into pump prices.
The program directly aids independent petroleum marketers who previously bore haulage costs and faced cash flow strain from paying for products before delivery. IPMAN's National Publicity Secretary Chinedu Ukadike notes this alleviates 'financial hold-up' where marketers' funds remain tied up during wait times for loading and transport, allowing more efficient capital deployment. He emphasizes that reduced distribution costs create room for lower retail prices since transportation forms part of what consumers pay at the pump.
With the refinery's 700,000 barrel-per-day capacity increasingly serving domestic markets, this delivery expansion aims to make fuel distribution more efficient nationwide. Marketers in the newly covered states can now access products without arranging or paying for long-distance haulage, while consumers may see competitive pricing adjustments if savings are passed through the value chain as intended.
