The Dangote Petroleum Refinery IPO opened Monday, September 13, 2026, causing Bamboo and Cowrywise investment apps to crash under overwhelming demand. Users reported login failures, slow loading, and error messages as over 236,000 new accounts were opened in the days leading up to the offer, with 152,000 already funded and trading.

The IPO offers 4.1 billion shares at ₦525 ($0.40) each, with a minimum purchase of 10 shares costing ₦5,250 ($4.20). Unlike typical offerings, shares are not allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. The offer remains open until October 13, 2026, and if oversubscribed, investors will receive a proportional allocation with refunds for any unfulfilled shares.

Approved fintechs for the IPO include Bamboo, Cowrywise, Flutterwave, Moniepoint, Paga, and PiggyVest, alongside banks and mobile money operators. The low entry point aimed to democratize investing for Nigerians who may never have used traditional stockbrokers, requiring only a one-time KYC process to access a CSCS account for share storage.

While the technical failures disappointed investors hoping for seamless access, the massive turnout demonstrates strong public interest in owning part of Africa's largest oil refinery. Engineering teams at the affected fintechs are working to restore full functionality.

Will you attempt to subscribe through the restored fintech platforms, try alternative approved channels like banks or mobile money, or wait to see how the IPO performs before deciding whether to invest in Dangote Refinery?
