Dangote Refinery IPO positioned as African investment opportunity
NGX Group chairman Umaru Kwairanga announced at London Africa Summit that the anticipated Dangote Refinery IPO will be positioned as an African investment opportunity, not just Nigerian. NGX has engaged stock exchanges across Kenya, Ghana, South Africa and other African countries to broaden participation in the planned offer and deepen regional capital market integration.
The exchange organized visits for African representatives to tour the Dangote Refinery to assess its operations and investment potential. Kwairanga emphasized that investors seek tangible evidence rather than stories, and Africa's youthful population and expanding economic opportunities make it attractive. Nigerian equities delivered over 50% returns in the first five months of 2026.
NGX has invested heavily in technology infrastructure, facilitating over ₦4 trillion in recent bank recapitalization exercises. The exchange conducted international roadshows in the US, Brazil, China and UK, with reforms like T+1 settlement cycle and extended trading hours aligning with global best practices. The partnership with London Stock Exchange aims to combine African opportunities with global capital flow.
With NGX bringing opportunities from Africa and London bringing global capital, the collaboration aims to increase investor confidence and capital inflows into the continent. Local investors can participate through NGX's technology platforms from anywhere in the world. How will the positioning of this IPO as an African opportunity rather than just Nigerian affect your investment strategy or perception of African markets?
