David Mark, national chairman of African Democratic Congress (ADC), warned Saturday at National Opposition Summit in Ibadan that Nigeria is drifting toward one-party rule. He accused All Progressives Congress (APC) of systematically weakening opposition parties and democratic institutions, claiming ongoing political developments aim at limiting Nigerians' ability to freely choose leaders and consolidating power within a single dominant party structure.

Mark emphasized that opposition parties have faced sustained pressure in recent years, warning such trends threaten democratic balance if unchecked. He also raised concerns about electoral credibility, noting public confidence in INEC has declined due to perceived lack of neutrality.

The former Senate president urged opposition parties to prioritize unity and coalition-building, stressing no single party can effectively challenge what he described as a highly entrenched political system. Mark warned that without corrective steps, the current political direction could have long-term implications for Nigeria's democratic health.
