Dickson tells Obi, Kwankwaso: Call OK Movement to order over campaign council

NDC National Leader Senator Seriake Dickson has told Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso to call their OK Movement support group to order. The reason? The group went ahead and set up a 59-member Presidential Campaign Council for the NDC's 2027 presidential candidate, a move Dickson says oversteps the group's role.

Dickson called the move "nonsensical" and "unheard of," stressing that support groups don't have the power to create campaign councils. He said they're meant for grassroots mobilisation only—not to compete with the party or play the role of a political party. "They don't convert themselves into critics," he added, noting that thousands of such groups exist without overreaching. He emphasized that the OK Movement's decision creates unnecessary tension within the party.

He made these remarks while welcoming former SGF Babachir Lawal into the NDC. Dickson pointed out that even the ruling party's support groups don't try to set up campaign councils, warning that the OK Movement's actions could spark internal conflict as the opposition gears up for 2027 elections.

With the opposition fragile ahead of next year's elections, what's the right balance: should support groups stick to mobilising the base, or is there room for them to share in campaign leadership? How this gets resolved could shape whether voters see the NDC as a united alternative worth backing in 2027.
