The Debt Management Office plans to raise N5.75 trillion through Federal Government of Nigeria bonds in the fourth quarter of 2026, with auctions on October 19 (N1.75 trillion), November 16 (N2 trillion) and December 14 (N2 trillion). The issuance spreads across three maturities: N500 billion each of the 19.00% FGN February 2034 bond in all three auctions (total N1.5 trillion); N800 billion of the 16.79% FGN September 2036 bond in October and N1 trillion each in November and December (total N2.8 trillion); and N450 billion of the 15.45% FGN June 2038 bond in October, with N500 billion each in November and December (total N1.45 trillion).

This follows a surge in bond allotments in the first nine months of 2026, when the government allocated N7.15 trillion—more than double the N3.48 trillion in the same period of 2025. Nigeria’s public debt stood at N166.79 trillion as of June 30, 2026, with domestic debt making up N91.59 trillion (about 55% of the total). The planned Q4 offers will add to this borrowing programme, though the calendar remains provisional and subject to change.

For investors, the auction dates and amounts signal where to place funds, while the public should note the continued rise in government borrowing and its implications for fiscal sustainability.
