Dogara: ADC's 2027 Bid 'Won't Be Taken Seriously' Without Clear Alternatives
Former House of Representatives Speaker Yakubu Dogara has dismissed the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a serious contender for the 2027 general elections, stating the party lacks a coherent vision. Speaking on Sunday Politics, Dogara argued that the ADC, which a coalition of opposition figures adopted in July 2025, offers only anger and criticism of President Bola Tinubu's administration without providing substantive alternatives.
Dogara, a prominent APC member, stated: "What vision or idea are they rallying behind? I have yet to see that. Until they bring alternatives to what the President is doing—and we look at them critically and see they are better than what we have—we cannot take them seriously." He described their current approach as "just gimmicks that will take them nowhere."
The ADC coalition is chaired by former Senate President David Mark, with former Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary and Bolaji Abdullahi as Publicity Secretary. Its prominent members include ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former presidential candidate Peter Obi, former ministers Rotimi Amaechi and Rauf Aregbesola, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai. The party has vowed to unseat the APC, citing rising poverty and economic hardship.
Dogara urged members to move beyond rhetoric to present a substantive policy platform. The ADC's adoption as an opposition platform follows a high-profile effort to consolidate non-APC forces ahead of the 2027 polls, but its strategy faces scrutiny on whether it can present a viable governance alternative to challenge the incumbent party.
