Former House Speaker Yakubu Dogara explained the forum for ex-lawmakers he established, saying it aims to harness their parliamentary training for national development. Speaking on Channels TV's 'Sunday Politics' on Sunday, Dogara said the group brings together former senators, House of Representatives members, state assembly members, and even local government counselors from all 774 LGAs in Nigeria.

Dogara argued that after leaving the National Assembly, lawmakers' expertise becomes a wasted national asset. He cited advanced training at institutions like Harvard, Cambridge, and Oxford that goes unused post-service. The forum is meant to ensure this collective knowledge remains available for Nigeria's progress.

The former Speaker framed the initiative as a deliberate choice for advancement, urging members to take responsibility. This comes amid reported tensions in Bauchi politics, where Dogara has criticized Governor Mohammed and his party, the APC. Is this forum a genuine attempt to leverage public service experience for national benefit, or does it serve other political objectives?
