Dogara slams ADC, says no vision to challenge Tinubu in 2027
Former House of Representatives Speaker Yakubu Dogara says the African Democratic Congress (ADC) won't be taken seriously in the 2027 elections until it presents concrete alternatives to President Bola Tinubu's policies. In an interview on 'Sunday Politics', Dogara stated he has not heard any substantive discussion from the ADC centred on the people's needs. 'What vision or idea are they rallying behind? I have yet to see that,' Dogara said. 'Until they bring alternatives to what the President is doing—and we look at them critically and see they are better than what we have—we cannot take them seriously.' He dismissed the party's current stance as 'just gimmicks that will take them nowhere.' The ADC was adopted as the platform for an opposition coalition in July 2025, led by prominent figures including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and former Senate President David Mark as national chairman. The coalition has vowed to unseat the APC next year, citing rising poverty and economic hardship. Dogara's critique aligns with his recent comments that a case can be made for Tinubu to continue his presidency beyond 2027. The ADC, however, has reported a massive influx of members since Peter Obi's entry, with party structures in states like Anambra seeing significant growth. For voters evaluating political alternatives ahead of 2027, Dogara's challenge raises a key question: beyond rhetoric about economic hardship, what specific policy solutions do opposition parties offer that could genuinely improve everyday life?
