Dyche praises Awoniyi after Nigeria striker scores in Forest’s Brentford win
Nottingham Forest manager Sean Dyche was delighted after Taiwo Awoniyi scored his first goal of the season in their 2-0 win over Brentford on Sunday. The Nigeria international netted the second goal with an individual effort, marking a breakthrough after a period of limited playing time under previous manager Nuno Espirito Santo.
Dyche highlighted the 28-year-old's dedication, noting that Awoniyi had trained hard in the week leading up to the match. "Absolutely buzzing. He works hard for us," Dyche said. "I had a chat with him – nothing heavy – and reminded him to be free. He looked free when he came on. He worked very hard and it was a very good finish."
The striker has been offered another opportunity to impress under the new manager, who replaced Nuno in late 2025. Awoniyi's goal comes at a crucial time for Forest, who are fighting to maintain their Premier League status this season.
Is this just a lucky breakthrough, or the start of a consistent run for the Super Eagles forward?
