The Federal Ministry of Education has denied reports that the Nigeria Education Management Information System (NEMIS) was hacked, labeling the claim inaccurate and misleading. In a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by Director of Press and Public Relations Folasade Boriowo, the ministry insisted the platform remains secure and that no cyberattack occurred.

The ministry explained that the temporary warning message some users saw stemmed from an SSL certificate configuration issue at the hosting level, not from any security breach. Its technical team, working with the hosting service provider, resolved the problem immediately after detection, confirming there was no unauthorized access, data loss, alteration of records, or exposure of sensitive information.

NEMIS is described as a flagship Federal Government framework for improving education data governance, integration, accessibility and evidence‑based planning across the sector. The ministry said it continues to apply robust security measures, regular system monitoring, infrastructure safeguards and periodic security assessments to keep the platform reliable and protected. It also stressed that SSL certificate alerts alone do not constitute evidence of a cyberattack.

Users can continue to access NEMIS normally, but should rely on official ministry communications for verification of any future service alerts rather than interpreting browser warnings as signs of a hack.
