Bolaji Kazeem Akinwunmi, popularly known as “Bolaji Original,” was arrested alongside his accomplice and former lover, Kemisola Mary Akinbo, an indigene of Idanre Local Government Area of Ondo State. According to a statement by the anti-graft agency in Ilorin on Tuesday, “investigations revealed that Akinwunmi posed as an officer of the Nigeria Customs Service and the Nigeria Immigration Service, falsely claiming he had access to employment slots for interested applicants.” googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1524595905268-5'); }); “The suspect allegedly sold the fictitious job slots to victims at rates ranging between ₦40,000 and ₦45,000. He reportedly targeted young job seekers, collecting payments under the guise of facilitating recruitment into the federal agencies.” Further findings, according to the anti-graft agency, showed that, in a bid to evade detection, Akinwunmi did not receive the proceeds of the fraudulent scheme through his personal accounts. “Instead, he allegedly used the bank account of Akinbo, his former girlfriend, to collect payments from victims. Transactions traced to the account indicated multiple deposits running into millions of naira, with narrations linked to job placements.” In her statement, Akinbo disclosed that she became involved with Akinwunmi in September 2023 and later moved in with him in Akure, Ondo State. She stated that he initially introduced himself to her as a police officer but later impersonated a recruitment officer to defraud members of the public. She further admitted that several payments were made into her account at his instance. Akinwunmi, in his own statement, reportedly confessed to receiving a total sum of ₦2,921,700 from the fraudulent activities. The suspects will be charged in court upon the conclusion of ongoing investigations, the statement added.
