Egypt came from behind to defeat New Zealand 3-1 in their Group G match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Monday morning, securing all three points at BC Place in Vancouver. Goals from Mostafa Ziko, Mohamed Salah, and Trezeguet completed the comeback victory after trailing early in the match. This marks Egypt's first win at the tournament following their 1-1 draw with Belgium in the opening fixture.

With this victory, Egypt joins Ivory Coast, Ghana, and Morocco as the only African countries to have won matches at the ongoing World Cup. Ivory Coast was first with a 1-0 win over Ecuador, followed by Ghana's 1-0 victory against Panama, and Morocco's 1-0 triumph versus Scotland in Group C.

Meanwhile, other African representatives including Senegal, Cape Verde, DR Congo, Algeria, South Africa, and Tunisia are still seeking their first victories at the 2026 edition. Egypt's win improves their position in Group G standings as they aim to advance to the knockout stages.
