Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti, has again put itself on the educational map with a landmark development that stands to redefine how financial education is taught in Nigeria and across Sub-Saharan Africa. In a bold move toward practical, industry-aligned learning, the university has officially opened the first-ever financial dealing and trading room at any African tertiary institution, a facility designed to give students real-world exposure to global financial markets.

The state-of-the-art facility is housed within the university’s Department of Finance and comes equipped with 12 high-end trading stations, dual monitors, live feeds, and robust internet connectivity to mirror actual trading environments. It allows students to engage in live trading of stocks, forex, equities, and bonds, offering valuable hands-on experience that goes far beyond textbook theory.

The project, made possible through collaboration with the Tunji Olowolafe Foundation, CFA Society Nigeria, and the FMDQ Group, reflects EKSU’s commitment to bridging the gap between academic theory and industry practice. The Vice Chancellor, Professor Babatola Ayodele, described the launch as a historic achievement that aligns with global best practices and underscores the university’s growing reputation as an innovative hub for finance and business education.

With countries increasingly driven by financial markets and investment dynamics, the trading room positions EKSU graduates for success in competitive environments, equipping them with practical skills in market analysis, risk assessment, and investment strategy, tools that are highly sought after in today’s economy.

This development not only elevates EKSU’s academic standing but also signals a shift in higher education toward experiential learning, a model many believe will shape the future of university education in Nigeria.
