The hearing follows Tuesday’s adjournment by the presiding judge, Justice Rilwan Aikawa, due to a series of legal developments between the defence and prosecution teams. El-Rufai ‘s lawyers, led by Ubong Akpan, had initially filed a motion asking the presiding judge to step aside over alleged bias, but later withdrew the request—leading to procedural delays. Ahead of the hearing, security around the court has been beefed up by a combined team of policemen and personnel of the Department of State Services.
