Emeka Ike was seen weeping in a viral video after Nollywood legend Olu Jacobs died at the age of 84 on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, following a battle with dementia with Lewy bodies. DAILY POST reports that Ike, in deep agony, said he had not seen Jacobs before his death. The veteran actor's passing has prompted widespread mourning across Nigeria's entertainment industry, with colleagues describing him as a godfather of Nollywood whose work shaped the growth of Nigerian cinema. Tributes have poured in from figures including President Bola Tinubu, who called Jacobs a "creative industry giant," and celebrities reacting under the hashtag "Black Wednesday in Nollywood." Content creator Judas also remarked that the loss makes trends like BBL feel irrelevant. Jacobs's career spanned decades, earning him respect as one of the foundational pillars of Nollywood. His death highlights the impact of neurodegenerative diseases on aging artists and raises questions about care for elderly creatives in Nigeria.
