EU imposes 1,600 new sanctions on Russia amid US-Russia oil deal
EU adopts nearly 1,600 new sanctions targeting Russia's military-industrial complex, ballistic missile production (affecting more than half its production chain), cooperation with North Korea, and those involved in the sham votes in occupied Ukrainian territories. Announced by EU High Representative and Vice President of the European Commission Kaja Kallas in Luxembourg on Monday, Oct 13, 2026, she said the expansion makes it harder, slower, and more expensive for Russia to produce weapons used to kill Ukrainians.
The sanctions come as the United States, under President Donald Trump, agreed with Russian President Vladimir Putin for Russia to supply millions of tons of diesel fuel to U.S. and global markets. The EU warns that lifting sanctions undermines pressure on Moscow and urges Washington to reconsider the oil deal. Brussels has expanded its counter-disinformation training to 65 countries, taken down dozens of websites and hundreds of ads linked to the Russian mercenary recruitment network in Africa, and is planning 100 additional sanctions on Russia’s FIMI infrastructure while exploring closer security and defence cooperation with like-minded partners.
With diesel fuel flows set to increase, businesses and consumers may see shifts in global fuel prices. Will you support stronger sanctions as a tool for peace, or believe engagement through energy trade could stabilize the region?
