Ex-CDS Lucky Irabor told Channels Television’s 'Generation Next' program on October 2, 2026, that Nigeria lacks the infrastructure needed to fully harness technology for tackling insecurity, speaking as part of the nation’s 66th Independence Day celebrations. He explained that while tech solutions such as drones exist, their effectiveness depends on systems that can receive, process, and analyse the data they collect, and on integrating multiple technologies into a cohesive framework.

This matters because insecurity continues to affect safety, mobility, and economic activity for citizens and businesses alike across Nigeria; without the supporting infrastructure, advanced tools cannot be deployed effectively, limiting their impact on reducing crime and insurgency. Irabor noted that the absence of integrated infrastructure is why even available technologies fail to deliver expected security outcomes.

He acknowledged that steps are being made to close the infrastructure gap, describing them as a gradual buildup that has already contributed to some improvements in the country’s security situation. Will sustained investment in tech infrastructure and integration lead to noticeable security gains in your community?
