Fani-Kayode warns SA after two Nigerians killed, threatens consequences
Former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode has condemned the killing of two Nigerians in Johannesburg, South Africa, calling the attacks unacceptable and warning of consequences if the South African government fails to act. Bishop Michael Taiwo Fakunle was shot dead at his home on September 4 after receiving threats, while James Uchechukwu Nwankwo died on September 5 following what Fani-Kayode described as gruesome interrogation techniques by South African Police Service officers. He noted that these are the 7th and 8th Nigerians murdered in South Africa this year, adding that over 100 Nigerian nationals have been killed in the country since 2022, with more than 30 of those deaths attributed to police or defence force personnel. Fani-Kayode also highlighted that the National Assembly has suspended all legislative engagements with South Africa and that xenophobic groups have issued a September 30 deadline for Africans to leave the country. He urged Pretoria to protect Nigerians, bring perpetrators to justice, and threatened sanctions if the violence continues.
