Fayose calls Peter Obi fantastic but says 2027 election hope is gone

Former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose described Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, as a fantastic Nigerian but warned there is no hope for him in the 2027 general elections. Speaking on Tuesday during an interview on TVC’s Politics Tonight, Fayose argued that the split of the opposition—Obi moving to the NDC while Atiku Abubakar stayed in the African Democratic Congress—doomed their chances.

He noted that voters have already seen Obi’s strategy from the 2023 election and are now prepared to counter it. Fayose pointed out that the All Progressives Congress succeeded because Muhammadu Buhari and Bola Tinubu united their forces, whereas the current opposition remains fragmented. Without a united front, he said, the opposition will continue to lose elections.

Fayose added that he does not seek personal popularity, urging opposition leaders to prioritize unity over individual ambitions if they want to challenge the ruling APC in 2027.
