FCMB unveiled a ₦20 billion Healthcare Fund at its inaugural Healthcare Summit in Lagos, aimed at financing private hospitals, clinics, diagnostic centres, pharmaceutical companies, pharmacies and maternity homes across the value chain. The fund seeks to provide long‑term, affordable capital for infrastructure expansion, medical equipment, working capital and technology adoption.

The summit highlighted that Nigeria’s healthcare sector needs more than just funding—it requires bankable businesses with strong governance, financial reporting and strategic partnerships to attract investment. Government data showed over ₦339 billion has been disbursed through the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund in the last 12 years, including ₦235 billion in the past three years under the Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative, and a recent ₦32.9 billion allocation to support more than 8,300 primary health centres with a target of 13,000 facilities nationwide. The Presidential Initiative aims for local production of 70% of medicines and medical devices by 2030. Healthcare Federation of Nigeria president Njide Ndili noted that affordable, long‑term financing remains a major barrier, but HFN’s partnership with the PharmAccess Medical Credit Fund demonstrates that SMEs can become bankable when financing is combined with technical support, capacity building and quality standards.

FCMB said the fund will complement public‑sector investment by providing additional capital for businesses seeking to expand capacity, acquire equipment, strengthen infrastructure and improve service delivery.

Will healthcare entrepreneurs pursue FCMB’s fund, strengthen governance and financial reporting to become investment‑ready, or leverage public‑private partnerships and local manufacturing initiatives to scale their operations and improve service delivery?
