FCMB launches N20bn Healthcare Fund to boost private sector investment
FCMB recently unveiled a N20 billion Healthcare Fund at their inaugural summit in Lagos to finance hospitals, clinics, diagnostic centers, pharmaceutical companies, pharmacies, maternity homes and other businesses across the healthcare value chain. The fund supports infrastructure expansion, medical equipment, working capital and technology adoption aimed at improving efficiency and service delivery.
Healthcare stakeholders emphasized that Nigeria's sector needs more than additional funding—it requires businesses capable of attracting capital, deploying it effectively and building sustainable institutions. The Minister of State for Health noted over N339 billion has been disbursed through government funds over 12 years, with N235 billion in the last three years alone, but private investment remains critical for growth and sustainability.
Access to affordable long-term capital remains a major barrier for private healthcare providers, as highlighted by the Healthcare Federation of Nigeria President. FCMB plans to partner with HFN to develop frameworks that help businesses become investment-ready through governance strengthening, financial reporting improvements and capacity building before accessing financing.
For healthcare entrepreneurs and investors, will this N20 billion fund bridge the gap between available capital and bankable businesses, or must more be done to fix systemic challenges in healthcare financing?
