FCTA launches BLS training for Abuja hospital health workers to boost emergency care
FCTA has begun American Heart Association-certified Basic Life Support training for health workers from seven Abuja public hospitals—Asokoro, Maitama, Wuse, Gwarinpa, Kuje, Kubwa and Nyanya. The four-day program, held at Asokoro District Hospital's Conference Hall, includes Stop the Bleeding trauma training. First batch ran August 21-22; second batch starts September 4-5.
This initiative, approved by the National Council on Health, aims to strengthen emergency response and reduce preventable deaths across FCT hospitals. Mandate Secretary Dolapo Fasawe stated the training builds public trust in government hospitals by ensuring timely, proper emergency care. Participants will be assessed and certified, with plans to expand the program to other FCT hospitals and establish Code Blue teams for critical care coordination.
Health workers are expected to share skills with colleagues and support the National Community CPR Initiative. Asokoro Hospital Medical Director Oluseyi Ashaolu called the training 'necessary and timely' for curbing avoidable deaths where immediate intervention determines survival.
With training batches completed and upcoming, patients needing emergency care at these FCT hospitals now have staff equipped with globally recognized life-saving techniques. Would this improve your confidence in seeking care at government facilities during medical emergencies?
