News Fear God, ensure credible 2027 elections – Lutheran Bishop, Rev Malau urges INEC Published on March 9, 2026 By Priscilla Dennis googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1500386953281-8'); }); The Bishop of the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria (LCCN), Rt. Rev. Nelson Malau, has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a credible and transparent election in 2027, stressing the need for sincerity and the fear of God in the electoral process. Malau made the call while speaking with journalists at the closing ceremony of the church’s Annual Convention held at its permanent convention ground in Numan Local Government Area of Adamawa State. “INEC must ensure sincerity and the fear of God in the conduct of the 2027 elections so that Nigerians can freely elect candidates of their choice,” he said googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1524595905268-5'); }); He also urged stakeholders across the country to carry out their responsibilities and avoid actions capable of jeopardizing the forthcoming general elections, while calling on Nigerians, irrespective of religious beliefs, to pray for peaceful, credible and acceptable polls. Speaking on security, the Bishop described the recent attacks in Hong and Madagali Local Government Areas, as well as the security breach in Lamurde Local Government Area of Adamawa State, as unfortunate, and called for intensified efforts by security agencies to protect lives and property. The cleric, however, commended the Adamawa State Government for efforts made so far to address the situation. Malau also supported calls for the creation of state police, describing the recent move by the Federal Government through the Inspector-General of Police on the matter as timely. He further advocated massive youth employment and improved electricity supply across the country. Delivering a message at the event, the guest speaker, Very Rev. Akoko Luke of the Evangelical Reformed Church of Christ, Bethel Land Gwantu in Kaduna State, urged Christians to remain steadfast in faith, emphasizing the importance of discipline, prayer and strong Christian marriages. Luke spoke on the theme of the convention, “Christ in You, the Hope of Glory,” drawn from Colossians 1:27. The convention, which began on March 4, ended on March 8, with branches of the church from across Nigeria in attendance.
