Motunrayo Kuti, daughter of late Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, has publicly criticized singer Wizkid for claiming he is bigger than her father. The response came after Wizkid made the statement while responding to criticism from Seun Kuti, Fela's son and another of Motunrayo's brothers.

In a video broadcast, Motunrayo directly addressed Wizkid, attacking him for the comparison and bringing up personal family matters. She responded to Wizkid's claim by saying he must also consider himself bigger than his own late father, Muniru Olatunji Balogun. She further criticized Wizkid for abandoning his baby mamas and warned that his own legacy would eventually be scrutinized.

This public exchange adds another layer to the ongoing debate about Wizkid's place in Nigerian music history. The conversation started when Seun Kuti criticized contemporary Afrobeats artists, including Wizkid, and Wizkid responded by claiming he is bigger than Fela. Daddy Freeze also recently weighed in, arguing that Wizkid cannot be compared to the Afrobeat legend.

The Kuti family has a long history of using music for social commentary, and this latest clash highlights generational tensions in the Afrobeats scene. With prominent artists like Burna Boy and Davido also being discussed in relation to Fela's legacy, the debate continues about what constitutes greatness in Nigerian music.

Is this debate about genuine artistic comparison or is it a distraction from the music itself? The conversation raises questions about how we measure an artist's impact across different eras of Nigerian music.
