Femi Kuti disclosed that his father's music catalogue remains family property under Fela's estate, which the family controls despite licensing agreements. The Grammy-nominated artist explained that the catalogue was never sold, maintaining that "we licensed the music, so we control it" and "when the years are done, we'll take it over and license it again." The decision was unanimous, with Femi's elder sister Yeni Kuti strongly opposing any sale as she's "very protective of Fela's legacy." Femi emphasized that not selling the catalogue preserves his father's legacy and ensures future generations benefit, stating "if we had sold, nothing would have come to the family." This strategic move comes as Fela's music continues to make history with recent inductions into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award, and Grammy Hall of Fame induction for his "Zombie" album. The family remains committed to maintaining "dignity and integrity with Fela's legacy" for future generations.
