FG backs Miss Nigeria Tamunosoye Karibi-George for Miss World 2026 in Vietnam Sept 5
The federal government has thrown its full support behind Miss Nigeria Tamunosoye Karibi-George as Nigeria's official representative to the 75th Miss World pageant scheduled for September 5 in Nha Trang, Vietnam. Speaking at a send-forth reception in Abuja, Minister of Women Affairs Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim framed the global competition as a platform for leadership and cultural diplomacy aligned with President Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda, assuring complete institutional support for Karibi-George's preparation, travel and welfare throughout the event.
Nigeria aims to reclaim the Miss World crown last won by Agbani Darego in 2001, with Permanent Secretary Esuabana Asanye expressing confidence that structured preparation by Nigerian women—unlike the pre-1995 government-led approach—will bring the title back. Asanye cited past victories by Helen Prest-Ajayi (1979) and Darego as proof Nigeria can win again. Karibi-George pledged to represent Nigeria with dignity while showcasing the nation's rich culture and heritage, calling it an honour to tell Nigeria's story on the global stage.
With contestants from about 130 countries expected, the ministry urges Nigerians at home and in the diaspora to support the representative, emphasizing that participation itself—regardless of placement—achieves national significance. As Nigeria seeks its third Miss World crown, will you support Karibi-George through social media advocacy, cultural promotion, or other tangible means to help showcase Nigerian excellence internationally?
