The Federal Government announced completion of the first 118‑kilometre section of the Abuja‑Kaduna‑Kano Highway at a cost of N257 billion. Works Minister David Umahi disclosed this after the Federal Executive Council meeting on Monday, June 29, 2029, and said the remaining 164 km stretch will be finished by November 2026. In the same briefing, Umahi listed 27 road projects approved nationwide worth over N3.9 trillion across 15 states including Adamawa, Benue, Cross River, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Kogi, Kwara, Lagos, Niger, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Plateau, Taraba and Yobe.

Key allocations include N276 billion for the dualisation of the Ilorin‑Ogbomoso Road, N265 billion for the reconstruction of the Iseyin‑Eruwa‑Agbesi Road linking Oyo and Kwara, N217 billion for the dualisation of the old alignment from Ijaye through the Federal Government College to Ilorin with a spur to Akinmorin, and N116 billion for the Abakaliki‑Afikpo Road in Ebonyi. Other major items are N110 billion for the Ogbomoso‑Oko‑Illupu Road (Oyo/Osun), N104 billion for rehabilitation of Sections One and Two of the Ilorin‑Omorin‑Ebe‑Kabba‑Obajana Road (Kwara/Kogi), N98 billion for the 30‑km Idi‑Araba‑Ayede‑Olodo Road in Oyo, and N92 billion for the Baban‑Lamba‑Sharan Phase Two Road in Plateau.

The programme is expected to improve north‑south trade corridors, reduce travel times and stimulate economic activity along the routes. Citizens and businesses should monitor progress via the Federal Ministry of Works website and consider how upcoming works may affect travel routes and logistics costs.
