FG has completed screening of Nigerians registered for evacuation from South Africa, with final arrangements for aircraft deployment underway. The screening exercise, which began Thursday June 4 and involved Nigerian High Commission in Pretoria and South African agencies, verified identities and eligibility of affected Nigerians amid rising security concerns.

According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the joint screening involved Nigerian High Commission officials, South Africa's Department of International Relations and Cooperation, South African Police Service, and immigration authorities. This verification process clears the way for determining the final number of Nigerians eligible for evacuation.

The evacuation follows renewed xenophobic attacks targeting Nigerians and other African migrants in South Africa. The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to protecting citizens abroad and ensuring safe return of those affected. Final arrangements for repatriation flights are expected to be announced shortly.

What support systems should be in place for returning Nigerians, and how can communities help those affected by xenophobic violence reintegrate back home?
