FG declares Tuesday, August 25, 2026, a public holiday nationwide to commemorate the 2026 Eid ul Mawlid, marking the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad. Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government in a statement issued on Friday by the Permanent Secretary Dr Magdalene Ajani.
The holiday applies nationwide, meaning federal and state government offices, banks, schools, and most businesses will be closed. This allows Muslims to observe the religious occasion through prayers, lectures, and charitable acts.
Mark your calendars: Tuesday, August 25 is a day off work or school. Essential services like hospitals, power stations, and security agencies will operate with reduced staff. Normal activities resume Wednesday, August 26. Reschedule Tuesday commitments for Monday or Wednesday.
