FG disburses N11.8bn interest-free loans to 6,842 tertiary staff

Federal Government has disbursed N11.8bn in interest-free loans to 6,842 academic and non-academic staff across 141 Nigerian tertiary institutions. The funds, distributed under the Tertiary Institutions Staff Support Fund (TISSF), provide eligible staff with loans up to N10m with zero interest.

Federal university staff constitute the highest beneficiaries at 59%, followed by polytechnic staff at 23% and college of education staff at 18%. So far, 34,000 applicants from 219 institutions have been verified for the program launched in August 2025.

Minimum five years to retirement is required for eligibility. The initiative is part of broader education sector renewal, which includes the distribution of 240 e-tricycles across 12 institutions and the EduRevamp Teacher Platform with 37,000 registered users.
