Federal Government has ordered the implementation of a one-stop joint-interest screening system across all Nigerian airports to enhance security. Mr. Ahmadu Danjuma, Acting Regional Manager (North Central) of FAAN, told NAN that the Office of the National Security Adviser issued the directive to prevent herdsmen and hoodlums from accessing airport facilities.

The system consolidates immigration, customs, and security checks into a single coordinated checkpoint for passengers, cargo, and staff. FAAN has simultaneously increased surveillance, deployed more personnel, and installed modern equipment including X-ray and L3 scanning machines across major airports. Perimeter fences are constantly patrolled and FAAN collaborates with other security agencies for intermittent airport rounds.

Additionally, aviation security personnel have been approved to bear arms. All personnel must complete the mandatory Basic STP123 AVSEC course covering threat recognition, explosives screening, baggage/cargo procedures, and emergency response. The course equips them with knowledge and skills to implement security preventive measures effectively. Danjuma confirmed that Abuja airport and others recorded no security breaches this year, even during festival periods. FAAN is confident these reforms will sustain high safety standards and prevent breaches.

Will this new one-stop system mean faster processing for passengers, or more thorough checks that could initially cause delays? What specific changes should travelers expect when passing through security checkpoints?
