FG Implements PAT, Settles Arrears After Resident Doctors Strike Negotiations
Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) announces federal government has reversed decision on implementing revised Professional Allowance Table (PAT), settling outstanding arrears, and funding residency training programs after nationwide strike negotiations.
The agreement includes implementation of revised PAT reflecting in April 2026 salaries, payment of all outstanding promotion and salary arrears, approval for 2026 Medical Residency Training Fund, and payment of 19 months' arrears of professional allowance. House officers' salaries remain unresolved.
NARD has suspended its planned comprehensive strike following negotiations involving Vice President Kashim Shettima, Health Minister Muhammed Pate, and other officials. Progress on government commitments will be reviewed at the Ordinary General Meeting in Kano in May. This resolution ensures continued healthcare delivery across Nigeria's medical facilities.
With healthcare services stabilized, what systemic improvements should be prioritized for Nigeria's healthcare workforce beyond salary adjustments?
