The Nigerian government inaugurated the Southern Tradition Rulers Council Primary Health Care Committee today, April 28, 2026, to drive community acceptance of immunization programs nationwide. Minister of Health Muhammad Ali Pate emphasized the committee's vital role in boosting primary health care penetration across Nigeria.

Committee chair Ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi assured federal government of southern traditional leaders' support for basic healthcare delivery. "As a face of Southern Nigeria, you can see that we are all fully represented here across the board," he stated. Dr. Muyi Aina, NPHCDA Director General, highlighted the polio eradication target: complete elimination of circulating variant polio virus by end of 2027.

The committee includes chairmen of traditional rulers' councils from Edo, Anambra, Delta, Abia, and other southern states. Stakeholders like Centre for Well-being and Integrated Nutrition Solutions pledged support for the primary health services initiative. With traditional leaders now officially involved, does your community have structures to collaborate with this new health committee for better immunization coverage?
