FG launched the National Digital Alphanumeric Postcode System through the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), assigning every addressable building a unique 11‑character alphanumeric code based on state, local government area, district, area and building. The postcode stays with the property regardless of occupants and can be accessed via postcode.gov.ng.

Poor addressing costs Nigeria an estimated ₦50 billion to ₦80 billion each year in missed and failed deliveries, while also hindering emergency response, security operations, financial services, business logistics and government planning. The new system aims to provide a standard digital reference that improves delivery accuracy, enables faster emergency location, strengthens security tracking and supports e‑commerce and public service delivery.

Nigerians are urged to visit postcode.gov.ng, find their postcode, save it and begin using it when sharing locations with businesses, service providers, family and others. Organisations can integrate the code into their workflows for a common location reference. Will you look up your postcode and start using it for deliveries, emergencies and everyday address sharing?
