FG and education stakeholders have proposed a new timetable for 2027 national examinations following a meeting on September 30, 2026, with resolutions signed by Dr Bukola Dosunmu, Coordinator of the FME‑Government Private Sector Working Group. Under the proposal, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board’s UTME will run from March 15 to 25, 2027, with results expected in March. The National Examinations Council’s SSCE is set for April 1 to May 14, 2027, and the West African Examinations Council’s WASSCE for May 11 to June 18, 2027; both NECO and WAEC results are slated for release in August 2027. Exams for the National Business and Technical Examinations Board and the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies are scheduled between June and July 2027, though their result dates remain unannounced. The Federal Ministry of Education stressed that these dates are provisional, pending final confirmation by each examination body. Separately, schools wishing to serve as examination centres must ensure that at least 75% of their teachers hold TRN licences by December 11, 2026; compliance will be checked and qualifying schools listed on the designated registration portal, while those that fail will be barred from hosting any of the examinations. Further details and updates will be communicated in due course.

What should candidates and schools do with this information? Students can begin aligning their study plans with the proposed windows—especially noting the tight March window for UTME and the April‑June period for senior school exams. Schools and centres should immediately audit teacher qualifications and arrange any needed training or licensing to meet the 75% TRN threshold before the December deadline, and keep watch for the final timetable once exam bodies confirm.
