The Federal Government has announced that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) will replace its traditional khaki uniform with locally produced Adire fabric as part of ongoing reforms. Minister of Youth Development Ayodele Olawande made the announcement on Channels Television’s 'The Morning Brief' on Thursday, stating the move aims to strengthen local production and ensure public spending directly supports Nigeria’s economy by keeping money within the country.

Olawande emphasized that Adire is already widely manufactured across Nigeria, specifically citing production in Ogun and Kwara states, and noted the government will leverage existing textile industry capacity. The change is designed to boost indigenous industries and promote local craftsmanship through government-backed demand for the fabric.

Beyond the uniform shift, the minister disclosed that the Federal Government is also restructuring the NYSC posting system to deploy corps members based on their professional backgrounds and areas of study, aligning service with individual expertise. However, the article did not specify a timeline for when the Adire uniform will take effect or provide details on costs or procurement processes for the new attire.
