FGN Savings Bond allotments rose to ₦47.25 billion between January and September 2026, up from ₦36.23 billion in the same period of 2025, according to Nairametrics' analysis of Debt Management Office auction data. The increase was driven by stronger allotments in January (₦6.34bn vs ₦4.31bn), February (₦5.91bn vs ₦4.18bn), July (₦6.19bn vs ₦4.27bn), August (₦5.86bn vs ₦3.32bn) and September (₦6.69bn vs ₦3.05bn), though March and April saw declines from 2025 levels.

This growth occurs amid elevated government borrowing, with Nigeria's total public debt reaching ₦166.79 trillion by June 2026. FGN Savings Bonds remain accessible to retail investors, sold in ₦1,000 units with a minimum subscription of ₦5,000 (maximum ₦50 million). The bonds are backed by the Federal Government, qualify as liquid assets for banks, and are listed on the Nigerian Exchange.

With allotments trending upward despite monthly fluctuations, these bonds continue to offer retail investors a government-secured investment option. Considering the current allotment pace and accessibility, how might FGN Savings Bonds compare to other fixed-income options like treasury bills or fixed deposits for your investment goals?
