FG rolls out ₦70,000 monthly transport allowance for federal civil servants starting Nov 5, but the policy covers only 3.32 million public sector workers—leaving out 71.2 million self-employed Nigerians, 9.64 million private-sector employees, and millions unemployed, according to Daily Post.

The allowance comes after NLC threats over fuel prices (now ₦1,370-1,429/litre) and a ₦70,000 minimum wage eroded by 19.59% food inflation. Yet Arise TV's Reuben Abati calls it discriminatory, Oseni Rufai says ₦70k won't cover actual transport costs, and Centre for Social Justice director Eze Onyekpere labels it a pre-2027 election bribe. Even NLC's Joe Ajaero and TUC's Festus Osifo are clashing over it.

Onyekpere argues the government should have used fuel subsidy savings to mass-produce CNG buses locally and subsidize conversion (currently ₦500k-₦700k for taxi drivers) rather than a temporary cash transfer that could vanish after elections. "It's not something you do simply because elections are near," he said.

With implementation in two days and no budgeted framework announced, the real question isn't whether civil servants need relief—they do. It's whether a targeted allowance for 4% of the workforce solves a transport crisis affecting 100% of Nigerians, or just buys quiet until May 2027.
