FilmOne Entertainment has been named one of six African buyers selected for TIFF: The Market, the inaugural global film industry market running alongside the 51st Toronto International Film Festival from September 10 to 16, 2026. FilmOne is the sole Nigerian company in the buyer cohort, which also includes five South African firms—Filmfinity, Sun Africa Group, Forefront Media Group, and Digicine Motion Pictures/Studios—and Tunisia’s Hakka Distribution.

This selection matters because it places Nigeria’s film industry at a major international marketplace. From Toronto, FilmOne’s team will meet with international sellers and stakeholders to acquire new titles, build distribution partnerships, and expand the reach of African cinema, with Nollywood content central to those conversations. It signals growing global recognition of Nollywood’s output and creates potential pathways for Nigerian filmmakers to access overseas markets and for local audiences to see more international films through FilmOne’s distribution network.

What should you know or do? Watch for announcements of FilmOne’s new acquisitions from TIFF: The Market, as they may bring fresh global hits to Nigerian cinemas. If you are a filmmaker or producer, consider reaching out to FilmOne about submitting your projects for possible international distribution through their expanded network. The market includes over 130 buyers from 49 countries, highlighting the competitive but opportunistic environment for African cinema.
