News Finding wiretapping equipment in El-Rufai’s house not surprising – Ayekooto Published on March 2, 2026 By Ochogwu Sunday A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Ayekooto Akindele, says the alleged discovery of wiretapping equipment at the residence of the former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, shouldn’t be surprising. Reports had indicated that the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, recovered suspected wiretapping equipment allegedly capable of intercepting private conversations and accessing sensitive security documents El-Rufai’s Abuja residence. However, the former governor’s family, in a statement on Monday, debunked the report, stating that no such equipment was found in the house. Reacting, Ayekooto in a post on X said the alleged discovery shouldn’t be surprising, stressing that El-Rufai confessed on national TV to have committed the crime. He said, “There’s no point for anyone saying that no wiretapping equipment was found in El-Rufai’s house. “No point whatsoever. And saying that ICPC raised the allegation because of El-Rufai’s silence is also ridiculous. “Distinguished Mallam El-Rufai himself had openly confessed on AriseTv Live Interview that “We listen to the calls of NSA”. So, El-Rufai has never been silent on this matter and finding wiretapping equipment in his house, as alleged, shouldn’t come to anyone as a surprise”.
