FirstBank Leads Nigeria's ESG Push with $9M Solar Investment
FirstBank invested $9 million in solar home projects across Africa in 2025, providing clean energy to communities. The bank also supported modular power plants worth N15 billion, enhancing energy access and reducing fossil fuel reliance. FirstBank fulfilled its NCF tree-planting commitment by planting 51,000 trees, absorbing 720 tonnes of CO2. Over 1 million students received financial literacy training, and 2,000 female employees benefited from leadership development. The bank screened $340 million in ESG risks and won Nigeria's Best Bank for ESG at the Euromoney Awards 2025. FirstBank plans to expand renewable energy investments and financial literacy programs.
