Five investors take over half of IEI's N25.84bn IPO, N60.3m refund due
International Energy Insurance Plc (IEI) raised N25.84 billion in its just-concluded public offer, with five applicants accounting for more than half of the subscription value. These five applications, each for 100,000,001 shares or more, were allotted 5,218,748,000 shares worth N16.7 billion, representing about 65% of the total funds raised. The offer was 147.67% oversubscribed, prompting IEI to refund N60.32 million to investors, comprising rejected odd-lot amounts and excess subscription monies, to be processed by Meristem Registrars and Probate Services Limited via RTGS or NEFT by Thursday, 6 August 2026. An e-allotment of shares via the Central Securities Clearing System (CSCS) will be completed not later than Tuesday, 18 August 2026.
This strong showing signals robust institutional and high-net-worth appetite for IEI despite its history of financial challenges and restructuring. The proceeds will help IEI meet higher minimum-capital requirements and broader regulatory reforms in the insurance sector, following shareholder approval in January for a capital raise of up to N17.5 billion and the conversion of a N2 billion deposit from Norrenberger Advisory Partners into equity, which increased Norrenberger’s stake to 50.61%.
Investors should monitor their bank accounts for the refund by the August 6 deadline and check their CSCS holdings for the allotted shares by August 18. The concentration of subscriptions among a few large investors highlights where confidence lies in IEI’s turnaround, while the broad base of over 33,600 smaller applications shows retained retail interest. Will you consider IEI’s strengthened capital position as a signal for longer-term investment in Nigeria’s recovering insurance sector?
