The Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) announced on Monday, July 27, 2026, that it will launch its Diaspora National Housing Fund (NHF) Mortgage Loan on August 7, 2026, in London, United Kingdom. Managing Director Shehu Usman Osidi said the product offers Nigerians living abroad a safe, transparent path to own homes in Nigeria, build wealth, prepare for retirement and strengthen the country's housing market. He added that the loan is expected to spur housing construction, create jobs, deepen mortgage penetration, formalise housing transactions and attract diaspora investment.

Officials at the 2026 National Diaspora Day Celebration in Abuja welcomed the move. President Bola Tinubu's representative, Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator George Akume, outlined plans to institutionalise a Diaspora Health Impact Initiative and expand medical missions. NiDCOM Chairman Abike Dabiri-Erewa praised the loan as a step toward broader diaspora engagement, while Housing Minister Engr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma announced broader mortgage reforms: loan ceiling raised to ₦85 million, annual disbursements targeting 2,000 loans, and NHF contributors allowed to use up to 25% of their Retirement Savings Accounts as equity.

FMBN reported NHF collections of ₦152.4 billion in 2025 (up 48%), refunds of ₦15.6 billion benefitting 55,068 contributors, loan approvals of ₦71.5 billion in 2024 and an operational surplus of ₦11.58 billion—the first in over three decades.

Will you consider using this diaspora mortgage to buy a home in Nigeria, or explore other ways to invest your overseas earnings in the homeland?
